چکیده

We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of small, strongly correlated clusters, described by a Hubbard Hamiltonian, by propagating in time the Kadanoff-Baym equations within the HartreeFock, 2 Born, GW and T-matrix approximations. We compare the results to exact numerical solutions. We find that the T-matrix is overall superior to the other approximations, and is in good agreement with the exact results in the low-density regime. In the long time limit, the many-body approximations attain an unphysical steady state which we attribute to the implicit inclusion of infinite order diagrams in a few-body system.

Successes and failures of Kadanoff-Baym dynamics in Hubbard nanoclusters.

We study the nonequilibrium dynamics of small, strongly correlated clusters, described by a Hubbard Hamiltonian, by propagating in time the Kadanoff-Baym equations within the Hartree-Fock, second Born, GW, and T-matrix approximations. We compare the results to exact numerical solutions. We find that the time-dependent T matrix is overall superior to the other approximations, and is in good agre...

Entropy production in 2D λφ theory in the Kadanoff-Baym approach

We study non-equilibrium quantum dynamics of the single-component scalar field theory in 1+1 space-time dimensions on the basis of the Kadanoff-Baym equation including the next-toleading-order (NLO) skeleton diagrams. As an extension of the non-relativistic case, we derive the relativistic kinetic entropy at the first order in the gradient expansion of the Kadanoff-Baym equations. The derived e...

We solve the Kadanoff-Baym equations for nonequilibrium initial configurations of the φ4-theory in 2+1 dimensions and compare to explicit solutions of generalized transport equations for the same theory. The latter transport equations are derived from the Kadanoff-Baym equation in a first order gradient expansion in phase space and explicitly retain the off-shell dynamics as inherent in the tim...

Comparison of Boltzmann Equations with Quantum Dynamics for Scalar Fields

Boltzmann equations are often used to study the thermal evolution of particle reaction networks. Prominent examples are the computation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe and the evolution of the quark-gluon plasma after relativistic heavy ion collisions. However, Boltzmann equations are only a classical approximation of the quantum thermalization process which is described by the so-calle...

Conserving Approximations vs. Two-Particle Self-Consistent Approach

The conserving approximation scheme to many-body problems was developed by Kadanoff and Baym using the functional-derivative approach. Another approach for the Hubbard model also satisfies conservation laws, but in addition it satisfies the Pauli principle and a number of sum rules. A concise formal derivation of that approach, using functional derivatives, is given in this conference paper to ...
